Copyright for Students

Are you unsure what is permitted from a copyright perspective when it comes to use of resources in your academic work? This guide will answer questions you might have and point to you in the direction of further sources of information and support.

Using Library Online Resources

The Library subscribes to a wide range of online books, journals and databases, and all of these are subject to copyright restrictions in their license agreements. These cover UEA registered students only and are provided for personal research and private study only.

In most cases you can download, email or print a copy for your own use, but you should not share or download copies for others.

For more details about individual licenses, contact eservices@uea.ac.uk

There is an Exception for Text and data mining for non-commercial research that trumps any publisher's contract restrictions provided you already have access via a Library subscription. This is a complex area though so we strongly recommend reading through these Guidelines on Text and data mining from Copyrightuser.org. Further changes to this Exception are under consultation.
