January 2026 brings changes to REF requirements and the way UEA is achieving Open Access. The team is visiting schools and research groups to discuss these changes, but this short video (8 mins) will provide you with an overview.

This is the new and growing hub for Open Research at UEA. We will support you in your research - whatever your discipline and whether you're starting out as a post-graduate researcher, early on in your career, or a seasoned research lead. An important focus of our support is open access publication and research data management, but we cover all aspects of research and recognise that not all of your research can be open. Staff from RIN and the Library have now been brought together within Library and Learning Enhancement (LLE) to form the new Open Research Team.
Open Research relates to how research is conducted and knowledge is shared. It supports collaboration and enhances impact. This section provides and introduction to open research.

There is a push towards open access publication and some good reasons for doing so. Whether the REF or your funder requires it or you want to do it anyway, this section explains the policies and processes involved. It also includes information about rights retention, which is important in ensuring your work meets REF requirements

Opening up your data will help others understand your work and build on it. Data could range from instrument read-outs to survey results or the transcriptions you make in archives. This section will introduce research data management, where you might put your data, and how you can help make it findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR).

The Open Research Team focuses on supporting researchers in their work and helping to build a strong research culture at UEA. We are based within the Library and Learning Enhancement (LLE) division but work closely with other parts of UEA, including Research and Innovation (RIN), the Postgraduate Research Service, UKRN representatives and members of the Research Executive.
