International Lee Child Symposium: 31 March – 1 April 2022
We are delighted to announce an international symposium dedicated to the writing of Lee Child, a key figure in contemporary crime fiction, and creator of the world-renowned Jack Reacher series. Hosted by the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing and by the British Archive for Contemporary Writing (BACW), this symposium celebrates the official opening of the archive of Child’s papers held at UEA. It also marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of Killing Floor (1997), which introduced the inimitable Jack Reacher, whose fight for justice, on behalf of the vulnerable and oppressed, has become a series hallmark. Reacher is a modern reworking of the mythic hero, a perpetual loner and outlaw. A call for proposals has been issued. Further information.
Where do Stories Come From? Future and Form Creative Writing Workshops
During July, BACW held 7 creative writing workshops via Zoom, led by the Archivist and UEA Creative Writing postgraduate students: Jesse Firman, Ariane Parry and Claire Reiderman. The sessions attracted 83 participants, including attendees from the Unites States, Canada, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Europe and received positive feedback as well as contributions to the ‘Where do Stories Come From?’ gallery of creative writing submissions.
The Future and Form exhibit, which uses augmented reality to bring Tash Aw’s creative process and literary archive to life to encourage beginner writers to engage in writing, is available until April 2022 and will be featured in future workshops with schools and as part of the Norwich Science Festival at the Forum during October 2021.
